Method:
1. Rinse the urad dal and idli rava separately in water and soak them in separate bowls for at least 4 hours or overnight.
2. After soaking, grind the urad dal into a smooth paste by adding water little by little. Make sure it is fluffy and light.
3. In a separate bowl, grind the idli rava into a fine batter. Add water as per the required consistency.
4. Mix the urad dal batter, idli rava batter, and salt together and let the mixture ferment for 6-8 hours. You can place the batter in a warm and dark place for efficient fermentation.
5. Once the batter is fermented, grease the idli moulds with oil and pour spoonfuls of the batter in them.
6. Steam the idlis for about 10-12 minutes. To check if the idlis are cooked, insert a toothpick in the center of the idli. If it comes out clean, the idlis are ready.
7. Remove the idlis from the mould and serve hot with sambar and coconut chutney. Enjoy your homemade idlis!
