Ingredients Required:
1 cup of rice
1/2 cup of split yellow moong dal
4 cups of water
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp salt
3 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp cashews (chopped)
2 tbsp raisins

Method:
1. Rinse the rice and dal together and soak for about 10 minutes.
2. In a pressure cooker, add rice, dal, water, turmeric powder, and salt.
3. Cook on high heat for about 3-4 whistles (or until well-cooked), then reduce the heat to low and let it cook for another 15 minutes.
4. Turn off the heat and let the pressure release naturally.
5. In a small pan, heat ghee and add in the cashews and raisins until golden brown.
6. Add the black pepper to the ghee mixture.
7. Add the ghee mixture to the cooked rice-dal mixture and mix well.
8. Serve pongal hot with sambar, chutney or any side dish of your choice. Enjoy!
